Photography is an art, and when you are dealing with any art form, it is not uncommon to get discouraged with your work at some time or another.<\/p>\n
Just as a writer gets writer’s block, as a photographer, you may get stuck by lacking inspiration for new and exciting pieces. When every photograph begins looking like the last, it is time to stop wasting film on mediocre prints and time to start motivating yourself for better work.<\/p>\n
One of the first ways in which you can find new inspiration is by traveling. When you are shooting in a new location, you will be seeing many different things, inspiring you to create better compositions, which will result in more beautiful photographs.<\/p>\n
When traveling, be sure to keep your camera and equipment safe from the hazards of the road-always keep your bag within sight to discourage thieves and buy a bag that will protect your camera and lenses so that you don’t have to worry about bumpy car rides or turbulence in the air.<\/p>\n
When you reach your destination, look at everything through a photographer’s eye, and take some of that newly found inspiration back with you when you start shooting at home again.<\/p>\n
Sometimes, however, you don’t need a new location, you just need a new subject matter. If you shoot landscapes, for example, take a few days and shoot some portraits. If you mainly do portraits, try your hand at still life. Whatever your usual subject matter, mix it up a bit to keep things interesting.<\/p>\n
You don’t have to devote your life to changing to this new concentration, but it doesn’t hurt to practice with your camera and even experiment with filters and lenses you don’t often use. One of the photographs you take might be an inspiration for your primary work, so concentrate on getting some fun shots, but make sure they are well composed.<\/p>\n
If none of this is working, perhaps it is simply time to take a little break. If you can afford it, take some time off from photography and do other activities-spend time with your family, read, travel-the sky is the limit.<\/p>\n
If you need to continue earning an income with your photography, do some easy freelance work instead of focusing your time on composing brilliant artistic pictures. When you’re burned out, inspiration will return in time, but by following these tips you can keep yourself motivated in your art.<\/p>\n
